Do you want to join us on a journey to change the trillion dollar travel industry? We are looking for the best and brightest who share our passion for travel, data and product. FindHotel believes travel is the one thing that really opens minds to new ideas, cultures and ways of thinking. Our mission is to get every traveller in the world the best accommodation deal. From adventure travel and backpacking to honeymoons and family vacations, we deeply care so that every traveller can make the best informed accommodation choice at the absolute best conditions for every trip. In the last 12 months we helped travellers book 1 million nights, while growing profitably at +100% a year, a unique achievement in the accommodation industry today. To make this possible we are collecting and analysing a vast amount of data. Overall, our data pipeline is currently ingesting about 80 GBs of data per hour and growing quickly as we grow. Using these large datasets effectively is a continuous challenge for our engineers and analysts.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated Data Analytics Engineer (BI) to help scale our data warehousing and business intelligence capabilities across our product teams. Your mission is to enable analysts and product teams to easily & intuitively interact with data and dashboards to understand user behaviour and generate insights. You will have end-to-end ownership from deciding on the events to be fired on the website, to designing the data model around them, to owning the ETL process, to making the data available in our BI platform and building dashboards and to sometimes even helping the team with data analysis. It's a great challenge for the right analyst/engineer to have a huge impact on our business while getting exposed to all aspects of our product.

You will collaborate with team members with a wide range of expertise, including engineers, analysts and product owners.

We work with a modern tech stack including Snowflake and Looker and we work in a flexible, mission-oriented team structure, focused on shipping value in a collaborative fashion.

What you will be doing

  • Design and implement data models to track user behaviour across our product.
  • Build ETL and Business Intelligence environment and dashboards used widely by the product teams.
  • Be the Looker advocate of the product teams, making sure we use the tool effectively, sharing knowledge continuously with other team members.
  • Optimise performance of Looker dashboards and data warehouse processes so that queries, reports & dashboards response times are fast.
  • Relentlessly improve the way that data is delivered & visualised whether it's gathering requirements for a new dashboard or inventing a new, better way of presenting multi-dimensional data.
  • Coach BI users in product teams to make them as capable and independent as possible so that you can focus on bigger things.
  • Analyse user behaviour and price dynamics to generate insights for our product teams, focusing on delivering the best prices to our customers.

What a day in the office might look like

In the morning, you have a quick look at the overnight ETL summary to make sure that the product teams will get the most recent and fault-free data. During a daily stand-up you discuss the progress on the week's priorities. You sync with them and chat about ingesting data generated by a new feature on our website. Next, you move on to building a Looker dashboard to expose data from new KPIs to our product teams- let's experiment a bit here and provide data using few different visualisations and data presentation methods, the most important objective is to allow them to explore data as seamlessly as possible. After lunch and few intensive table tennis games, now it's a good moment to think about how to validate data from the new feature - the nature of ETL or complex SQL calculations is that they like to lose some data points - but you're here to understand and prevent such situations. At the end of the day, you analyse how good the prices from a potential new inventory partner are compared to our existing partners as we want to work only with the partners that deliver the best prices to our customers.
