What you will do….
You will be part of an agile, multi-disciplinary engineering team responsible for the delivery and running of your own highly available and high throughput services. We keep the teams small in the “two pizza” sense, with your role providing the operational expertise across the full stack for the team.
How you will do it…
Having the enthusiasm and ability to pick up and understand key concepts and technologies is more important than being able to say you’ve worked with the majority of the tech we use.
To give you an idea of what to expect though, our platform uses a mix of private cloud VMs, AWS and containers for the building blocks of our services and understanding linux at a low level is essential. We run NodeJS, PHP, React and Ruby but you’ll find Java and Kotlin too so being able to navigate code bases and develop goes a long way too.
You’ll be responsible for driving and cross training the team on all operational aspects of running a high profile, high throughput customer facing web service. Everything from scaling for our big events to ensuring there are clearly defined non-functionals for new services to ensure readiness and stability.
Additionally, you’ll be there to ensure the squad are up to date with operational hygiene factors such as the patching, security and compliance requirements where necessary.
In a cross-functional team where a devops model is used we of course utilise tooling, configuration management and automation from scripting to infrastructure as code to continuously improve our approach and processes.
