Our purpose at Legal.io is ambitious yet simple: to make legal help universally accessible to absolutely anyone who needs it.
We have a big vision: to build the largest market network of legal professionals and standardized legal services, and to democratize access to these experts, data and tools. Our first mission: to be the leading legal market network provider to the world’s most trusted legal organizations. From our beginnings prototyping with mission-driven legal organizations and entrepreneurs as part of the StartX community of Stanford founders, to becoming a scrappy team of engineers, designers and lawyers hacking on our initial marketplace network (LawGives), we now find ourselves with a scalable technology platform, market traction and an expanding team.
We balance individuality and community as part of our culture of diversity, responsibility and intentionality. We are committed to helping all our team members and alumni build their careers and their networks, while preparing the company for growth. Be a part of our mission and help build a company that is changing the world.
Many companies list their perks, but to us, culture is less about what you get, and more about how you succeed, and how you belong. We have a culture of diversity, responsibility and intentionality, towards each other and towards the communities we identify with. We build relationships that endure and software that serves a greater purpose. We are non-hierarchical. We challenge each other and society’s status quo. We experiment, measure, learn and share. We balance autonomy, individual accountability and celebration of great work, with the sense of belonging that comes from a life shared with communities of good people.
Legal.io is part of the StartX community of Stanford’s top entrepreneurs. With access to regular community events and workshops, members of our team can learn, bounce ideas around and get feedback from a network of the finest entrepreneurial peers and mentors, ready to share their experiences and expertise. Our main offices are in the San Francisco headquarters of the Embassy Network, a global network of shared-living spaces for creatives, professionals and modern nomads traveling the globe for projects and collaborations. All team members receive membership of the Embassy Network with full access to events and community resources.
Software touches every corner of our company, enabling us to continually improve every process by controlling the tools that run them. We are currently looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our team and set a high bar for frontend development in all of our products. The user experience of interacting with the legal system is tragically archaic and complex, but service providers on the legal.io platform are embracing the importance of seamless and intuitive approaches to communicating important information.
We run a cloud-first, API-driven architecture. Our goal is to enable everyone in the world to access the experts, data and tools in our network, so huge web-scalability is a requirement. Our stack is currently coded primarily in Ruby on Rails. We keep gems/frameworks up to date and periodically refactor to remove legacy code. We run a 2-week sprint process, with a one to two day interstitial.
You will be a leader on the team responsible for owning the front-end development framework. As a core team member in a well-funded early-stage startup addressing a big problem and a multi-billion dollar market opportunity, you’ll be at the forefront of our efforts and be directly responsible for decisions that shape the product and success of the company.

Visas readily available if you're looking for a stint in Silicon Valley, or the chance to work remotely if you're a globetrotter.
The idea for Legal.io began when our founders, Tony and Pieter, met on the Law, Science and Technology program at Stanford Law School, thinking about the inefficiencies they saw in legal practice, and how addressing these through technology could democratize access to the legal system on a massive scale. This is the spirit and ethos of our company: We are concerned with opening up an industry, as it changes, to ensure the benefits of legal help are made available for all. We aim to create commercial and humanitarian value with the market’s most extensive network of experts, data and tools.
